Have you been skipping breakfast? Or you’ve been thinking that eating breakfast is not important? If you have been skipping breakfast for whatsoever reason or you share the view that eating breakfast is not important, it’s high time you changed your attitude towards breakfast as it is quintessential for healthy living.

It is a common culture among young folks and even adults to skip breakfast. There are several reasons people bring to the fore to justify their actions. To some, they just don’t have the time, some others are trying to lose weight, some feel they don’t just have the appetite for food and some others are bored of having to eat the same meal for breakfast now and then. So, they just quit on it and go about everyday business without considering the repercussion of their decision and how this is gradually impacting negatively on their wholesomeness.

Let’s move on to the many benefits of breakfast to your body.

Breakfast implies “break your overnight fast” and it is the most important meal of the day. It’s the first meal you have to eat in the morning after you wake up. Here are some of the reasons why breakfast is important and as such, shouldn’t be skipped by anyone.

It replenishes energy for a new day

enjoying a healthy breakfast

Maybe you don’t know, your body requires breakfast to restore used up energy. After a long night of sleep following dinner that had earlier taken place two to three hours before bedtime, the energy level in your body is used up by the liver which converts stored up glycogen in the body into glucose. This is done to keep your blood sugar level required for energy stable until the body is replenished with food again as stored up glycogen in the liver or muscles would have been used up as it sustains you through the night.

Therefore, eating in the morning boosts your energy as glycogen is restored in your body. No wonder, you find some people acting so weakly in the morning where they are supposed to be vibrant.

It stimulates the brain

Sluggishness and lack of focus are the consequences of skipping breakfast. The reason for this is not far-fetched, it’s simply because when you skip breakfast, your brain is deprived of the energy needed to function effectively for the day. As said earlier, glycogen is usually used up during periods of sleep as such, when you wake up in the morning, you must take breakfast so that your brain can be empowered for another day’s task. Research shows that people who eat breakfast are more likely to be vibrant for the day, unlike others who don’t. Hence, they tend to achieve their daily goals.

Even among children, those who are deprived of breakfast are academically backward and mentally retarded than their counterparts who eat steady breakfast meals.

Provides your body with needed vitamins and minerals

Breakfast meals are enriched in fiber, potassium, magnesium, and other essential mineral nutrients needed for optimal body functioning. Hence, it is not an option. There is usually a stipulated amount of minerals and vitamins needed by the body daily as such, by not skipping breakfast, it’s easy to meet this daily required amount.

Helps with weight control

Eating Healthy Will Make You Stronger

Although people are of the view that to lose weight, they must skip breakfast. There is no element of truth in this as body weight is determined by the kinds of food you eat. For instance, even if you skip breakfast but still eat high cholesterol and high-calorie diets, you are prone to becoming obese. Suffice to say, eating the right meal in the right proportion and at the right time will go a long way in impacting your weight positively in the short and long run.

Helps you have a healthy feeding diet

Unlike people who skip breakfast, those who don’t – have a hygienic feeding habit hence, find it easy to achieve satiety every time they eat. People who skip breakfast are predisposed to gulping down junks as they tend to feel hungry now and then. This is no way good for maintaining a hygienic feeding habit.

Now that you know that inculcating the habit of eating breakfast is a must, you just have to do everything possible to ensure that you eat it even if you are pressed for time or can’t dare to face food every morning. You could prepare something light but highly nutritious. Cut down on the proportions if you must but ensure you gulp something down every morning.
